The RF 28-70mm f2 L USM Is the Best Zoom Lens on the Market
If you’re thinking of buying a Canon RF 28-70mm f2 L it’s well worth the investment. The Canon RF 28-70mm lens is truly exceptional. One of the best lenses ever made. It was introduced in 2018 and stands out as the fastest midrange zoom lens on the market. The lens maintains a super wide f2 aperture throughout its entire focal length, boasts blazing fast auto focus, has a whopping 95mm front filter thread, and weighs 3.3 lbs. However, the most impressive feature of this lens is its ability to resolve images with incredible clarity and sharpness. Even at f2 and across all focal lengths from 28 to 70, the lens produces pin-sharp images from center to edge. This lens is arguably the best autofocus mid-range zoom lens ever created, with optics that surpass all but the very best high-end prime lenses and easily outperform zoom lenses offered by other manufacturers in terms of image quality.
However, not everything about this lens is perfect. There are several drawbacks worth mentioning. Firstly, there is the issue of hidden costs associated with filters. Due to its 95mm filter thread, filters can be quite expensive. At the very least, you will require a polarizer and a neutral density filter, which could set you back around $400. Another concern is the weight of the lens. When combined with the EOS R5 camera, the combo weighs 4.9 lbs. While this may be manageable for a quick portrait session, it could become a burden if you intend to shoot weddings or engage in prolonged photography sessions. To avoid fatigue, you might need to hit the gym and build some core strength. Additionally, when it comes to video work, this lens has its limitations. It suffers from noticeable focus breathing and lacks image stabilization. As a result, it is not an ideal choice for filmmakers who need to shoot run-and-gun. However, if you are filming stationary subjects like interviews, this lens proves to be incredibly versatile and produces beautifully defocused backgrounds. Stay tuned I will be releasing a comprehensive review of this lens soon. Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel so you don't miss it.
