Fujifilm TCL II Converter before & after shots

The Fujifilm X100 cameras have gained immense popularity, and rightfully so. They offer a distinctive experience that not only evokes nostalgia but also provides users with the freedom to showcase their personal style through customizable film presets and attachments. In this blog post, we will briefly discuss one of these attachments: the Fujifilm TCL-X100 B II conversion lens, or TCL as I’ll be calling it for the rest of this post.

The X100 series cameras feature an APS-C sensor and a fixed 23mm lens. Translating that into a full frame field of view that becomes a 35mm focal length. In my opinion 35mm is the most versatile focal length as you can use it to shoot headshots, environmental portraits and landscapes. If you get tired of shooting at 35mm Fujifilm offers two conversion lenses. The TCL which converts the native 35mm lens into a 50mm lens and the WCL which converts the x100v’s lens it into a 28mm. Just like the X100V itself these conversion lenses also come in silver or black.

I’ll be making a full review of the TCL shortly make sure you subscribe so you don’t miss it. But for those of you who have asked me for some sample shots here they are. Here is what I have noticed so far:

  • The TCL adapter changes the way you look for compositions as you can now effectively isolate subjects.

  • Yes you can create subject separation with the TCL. As you can see in the first sample image at f2 you can get some nice bokeh.

  • I’m happy to say I haven’t noticed any loss in image quality or slower focus speeds with the TCL attached.

  • The TCL has a 67mm filter thread so if you are a filter shooter you’ll have to invent in some new filters.

  • The TCL adapter does make the X100V noticeably front heavy so I would recommend getting a thumb grip to help keep the camera balanced in the hand.

If I had one critique it would be that although there is a difference between 35mm and 50mm it’s not a huge difference. I find myself wishing that the TCL was a little bit longer perhaps 60mm. Enjoy the sample shots and stay tuned for the full review.
