Shimbol CP5 With the iPhone 16 Pro Max for the Ultimate Vlogging Setup

In today’s fast-paced world of content creation, having the right gear can make all the difference. The Shimbol CP5 is a 5 inch Full HD touchscreen monitor designed to enhance smartphone videography and photography, allowing creators to use their high-quality rear cameras for selfie content instead of being limited to the front-facing selfie cam. With a feature-packed design and wireless connectivity, the Shimbol CP5 is quickly becoming an essential tool for modern vloggers, YouTubers, and mobile filmmakers.

Full HD Touchscreen

The CP5 features a 1920x1080 resolution touchscreen, providing a sharp image with 500nits of brightness. Whether you’re monitoring your footage in real-time or framing the perfect shot, the display ensures clarity and precision. Speaking of framing the perfect shot you can also turn on grids to help you with composition. But that’s about it when it comes visual aids. There is a slight 40ms delay. When vlogging the delay wasn’t an issue at all.

Wireless Video Transmission

Thanks to dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) and Bluetooth, the CP5 enables real-time video transmission from your smartphone’s camera to the monitor. This means you can place your phone at a distance and still get a perfect view of your shot without lag or interruptions.

Remote Shutter Release

The CP5 monitor can also be used as a camera trigger. There is a dedicated shutter release button on the CP5 so you can setup your shot wile viewing the composition in the CP5 than use the shutter release button to snap away. Below is selfie photo I was able to shoot with the wide lens on my iPhone using the CP5 as a monitor just as snow started falling off the building around me. I wanted to get a shot of myself with the snowflakes illuminated by the sun behind me. The phone focused on the snow in front of me instead of my face but that’s not the CP5’s fault. It’s just a simple example of how this little monitor opens the door to more creative possibilities for photographer and videographers.

Battery Life

Equipped with a 2000mAh rechargeable battery, the CP5 provides up to 3.5 hours of continuous use on a single charge. To be perfectly honest as a content creator getting 3.5 hours of usage is nice but it’s far from ideal in a real world use case. I would strongly recommend getting a battery bank with your CP5 for those long days of production on the go.

Universal Compatibility

The CP5 is designed to work with both iOS and Android devices, making it a versatile option for a wide range of smartphones. Whether you’re using an iPhone or an Android flagship, this monitor seamlessly integrates with your device.

Weather Sealing

There is no mention of weather sealing so I think it’s save to assume this is not an all weather device. I would avoid using it in the rain and in extremely humid conditions. I haven’t had this product long enough to share any in-depth experience with use in different conditions but if the YouTube video does well I will make a long term review.

Start up Time

One of the big issues I had with the CP5 at first was the 14 second start up time. Simbol did release a firmware update while I was making this review and it reduced the startup time to 7 seconds which is a nice step forward. As a creator I would like to see the start up time reduced even farther to let’s say 3 seconds so I don’t miss that shot. Also, just spit balling here, I don’t know if this is possible but I would love to see a direct USB-C to USB-C connection to the iPhone so that linking up the device to the phone can be as easy as plug-and-play.

Why the Shimbol CP5 is a Game Changer

The Shimbol CP5 is more than just a monitor, it’s a tool that empowers content creators to unlock the full potential of their smartphone cameras. Traditionally, many creators have been forced to rely on selfie cameras, which often lack the quality and versatility of rear cameras. With the CP5, users can frame themselves perfectly while using the best lenses on their smartphones, ensuring professional-grade video quality. I mean if you’re paying all that money for a good smart phone you might as well have the ability to take full advantage of the lenses you have.

Beyond improving video capability, the CP5 also helps creators save money. Many aspiring content creators invest in expensive mirrorless cameras or devices like the DJI Pocket 3, thinking they need high-end gear to achieve professional results. However, the Shimbol CP5 eliminates the need for those costly investments, proving that your smartphone is more powerful than you think when paired with the right accessories.

I haven’t had this product for very long but in my opinion for YouTubers, vloggers, TikTok creators, and mobile filmmakers, the Shimbol CP5 is a must-have. By bridging the gap between smartphones and professional video equipment, this device is revolutionizing content creation. If you're looking to step up your video quality without breaking the bank, the Shimbol CP5 is the game-changer you’ve been waiting for.
