KIMBERLY CREATIVES (MINI TUTORIAL)

The one thing I truly love about photography is getting creative and experimenting with ideas. This was a cool set shot with a slow shutter speed, tripod and two sparklers.

This shot was an interesting setup. I had the camera on a tripod and was using a long 1 second exposure. There was one strobe above the model with a medium softbox. The modeling lamp was set to full power and the strobe was set to minimum power. Kim was dancing around with the sparklers.

The idea here is that the initial flash from the strobe freezes the image of Kim but because the shutter is being dragged for a second you can see the blurred movement of the model and the trail created by the sparkers. I overlaid an image of a starry night sky on top of the photos to finish them off.

To change things up you can adjust the poser of the lights or the length of the shutter. You can even take the camera off the tripod and spin it around. There are no rules in the creative process. Just go have fun and create. I love the way these came out. very free and spontaneous.
