Xuan Body Cap Lens 32mm f10 - Lens Info
Xuan Body Cap Lens 32mm f10 - A Budget-Friendly fun lens
Here’s something totally ridiculous, but in the best way possible, the Body Cap Lens! It’s literally just a body cap with a tiny plastic lens slapped onto it. That’s it. No fancy glass, no autofocus, no aperture control just pure quirky fun. The Body Cap Lens has a 32mm focal length and is fixed at f10. It’s as simple as it gets, a fixed-aperture, fixed-focus prime lens that doesn’t even have a focus ring. It’s available in multiple mounts, so most mirrorless shooters can get in on the fun. When I saw it online for $12, I thought, why not? Worst case scenario, I end up with a weird conversation piece. Best case? I find a new way to challenge myself and create some fun content for the YouTube channel.

Mounting & Camera Setup
Since this lens lacks electronic communication with the camera, you’ll need to enable "Release shutter without lens" in your camera’s settings. This option is usually found in the menu under "Custom Functions" or "Lens Settings", depending on your camera brand. Once enabled, your camera will allow you to shoot even though it doesn’t detect a lens attached.
Using the Lens
One of the most interesting aspects of this lens is that it doesn’t have a focus ring—instead, it relies on a fixed focus system. The minimum focus distance is around 1.8 meters or 6 feet, while the maximum focus distance is essentially infinity. This means that anything beyond the minimum focus distancec will generally be in focus, making it great for street photography, landscapes, and casual snapshots. However, if you’re trying to capture close-up details, you’ll need to be mindful of the focus limitations or you can try to ad an extension tube and see what happens.
Image Quality & Shooting Experience
With a fixed aperture of f10, this lens performs best in bright lighting conditions. Since there’s no way to adjust the aperture, you’ll need to compensate with ISO and shutter speed to get the right exposure. The images it produces have a soft, almost pinhole-camera-like aesthetic, with some noticeable vignetting and reduced sharpness compared to standard lenses. Not to mention the plastic elements add a ton of CA in high contrast situations. However, that’s part of its charm, it delivers a unique, lo-fi look that can add character to your shots.
The Fun Factor
Despite its limitations, the Body Cap Lens 32mm f10 is an absolute blast to use. It strips photography down to its basics, no autofocus, no settings to fiddle with, just point and shoot. It encourages creativity, spontaneity, and a different way of seeing the world. If you love experimenting with unusual lenses or want something ultra-lightweight for everyday carry, this little lens is worth checking out.
