Lens Info - MIR-1 37MM F2.8 GRAND PRIX BRUSSELS 1958
MIR-1 37MM F2.8 GRAND PRIX BRUSSELS 1958
Etched on the front of the lens barrel is "Grand Prix Brussels 1958", a commemoration of the Mir-1's remarkable lens design that earned the prestigious Grand-Prix Award at the Brussels World Fair. This lens is based on the Carl Zeiss Jena Flektagon 35mm f2.8, a German-made lens who’s blueprints were acquired by the Soviets as part of war reparations after WWII. However, due to the scarcity of quality glass post-war, Soviet engineers modified the lens design to create the beloved Mir-1 we all love today. This lens really has some charm. With a dated lens coating, the MIR-1 produces stunning lens flares when shooting towards bright lights. Boasting a 10-blade iris and f2.8 max aperture, this lens also enables you to capture soft and pleasing bokeh, and under favorable conditions you can even get that coveted swirly bokeh . What sets this lens apart is its ability to deliver sharp images while still exuding that charming vintage character we all adore. If you’re into vintage lenses this is one you should definitely try.
