The Helios-40 85mm F1.5 is awesome and frustrating. This lens has plenty of that vintage charm we all love. It can even produce Buzzsaw bokeh and that sought after swirly bokeh. When it comes to composition it’s important to remember that it’s only ever sharp in the middle. If you try to compose your subject around the edges of the frame you can expect soft focus. This lens has a learning curve which can be challenging for those that don’t want to put in the effort to learn the quirks but once you master it this lens is a lot of fun to use.
